Upon returning to Italy, Grieco worked as a script supervisor and assistant director before making his directorial debut with Il sentiero dell'odio (1950). He directed a variety of films, including Il sergente Klems (1971) and Beast with a Gun (1977). Grieco was known for his versatility, directing films across multiple genres such as peplum, spy thrillers, and crime dramas. He passed away on March 30, 1982, in Rome, Italy.
