Aleksandr Kibalnik was born into a miner’s family in Kopeysk, RSFSR. He studied under Volodymyr Denysenko (class of 1970) and was selected for the workshop in part because of his Ukrainian origins. After completing his studies in Kyiv, he returned home due to family circumstances, withdrew from filmmaking, and focused on artistic and literary work.
