Em, a non-binary person out for four years, begins Testosterone therapy, sparking conflict with their fiancé Spencer, who struggles to accept being seen with a partner who isn’t a woman. Em leaves him and finds support in Rose, a trans friend reclaiming her music career. They begin dating Ana, a non-binary performance artist who awakens Em’s sexuality, but Ana’s bipolar struggles strain the relationship, leading Em back to Spencer. Through shifting love, friendships, and family ties, Em learns to embrace their identity and prepares to share their truth with their single mother.
