"Crematorio" arranca con una tensa conversación entre Rubén Bertomeu y Traian en la que discuten sobre la participación del ruso en el nuevo proyecto Costa Azul, un complejo urbanístico de proporciones pantagruélicas. En ese momento, Silvia Bertomeu llama para anunciarle a su padre el fallecimiento de su hermano Matías. Cada miembro de la familia Bertomeu se enfrenta a la noticia de una manera tan distinta que no parece haber vínculos de sangre entre ellos.

In the 1990s, an unscrupulous builder, who has amassed a large fortune with agricultural companies, goes into business on the Spanish coast. After the death of his brother, he creates a large business and urban development network that makes him the most powerful man in Misent, an imaginary city in the Spanish Levant.
