A little girl is born in Värmland with a special ability. Inside her is a creature that can tell the most horrifyingly frightening and shimmeringly beautiful stories. But she won't obey her father. At the end of the 19th century, the whole world is on the move for the new century. New inventions and ideas make anything seem possible! Selma Lagerlöf travels to Europe and crosses the Mediterranean to the Orient. She falls in love with two women, which becomes a lifelong triangle drama. And when her debut novel arrives, the male cultural elite is shocked by its originality and quality.

Selma Lagerlöf's life and work never ceases to fascinate and to be relevant. Selma Lagerlöf broke with the old role of women that she was expected to accept. Against her father's wishes, she applied for, and was admitted to, a teacher training college in Stockholm. She would now be on her own. And she had a particular goal, she knew she had "a strong star"; she had stories in her, and she saw beyond the visible.
